A Life More Beautiful - lyrics |
|
|
|
The Mountains of Wicklow Time after time, I have turned this circle around Looking for answers, searching for Holy ground So many places, so many blind dead ends So many faces, so many long-lost friends I’ve been looking to find a place where I Can lay on my back and look up at the sky Where my heart is free and my dreams can fly Where I have peace of mind CHORUS: I am hearing the call of this verdant land With my hands in the earth and my feet on the sand From the airy heights of the mountain tops To the wild Atlantic foam I’ve been feeling this longing so deep inside And it’s closer now as I open my eyes The Mountains of Wicklow Are calling my spirit home Here is the space where I feel my heart can belong In this beautiful place I can here so many songs Here we have time for our hearts to make a quieter sound To lie on a hillside and watch the sun go down I know I will make so many new friends I will smile much more; feel this old heart mend And maybe we’ll find our rainbow’s end And learn to live again CHORUS People of Ireland, join me in my song I know I’ve found the place where I belong CHORUS The Mountains of Wicklow Are calling my spirit home Words and music © Mark Robinson 2004 |

Who I Am CHORUS: You know who I am by the songs that I sing By the dream in my heart, by the love that I bring Through my music this world can understand Exactly who I am In the eagle flying high on the wind There’s a voice deep inside me that’s calling again There’s so many things that I must do But my love is just for you In the touch of your hands, in your sweet tender kiss All my life I have waited for love like this You touch me with your gentle ways You bring peace to my days You know that I am always chasing rainbows You know my spirit dances with the wind You know inside your heart how much I love you You’re the reason I am flying again CHORUS In the last red light of the evening skies I’m the breeze in your hair; I’m the love in your eyes I’ll be right there, standing by your side To watch the falling tide When my time is gone and my story’s told I will still be there when the long nights are cold I will hold your hand when the angels come To take you to the sun CHORUS You know who I am You know who I am You know me now You know who I am Words and music © Mark Robinson 2004 |

Just A Boy |
|
|
|
He was just a young boy, only seventeen He never had been kissed before; he’d had no time to dream But they took him out this morning as the sun began to rise Tied his hands behind his back and put a rag over his eyes He was just a boy…just a boy… But the army says the only place for cowards Is a lonely, unmarked grave Yesterday he sang a song his mother taught him long ago He recalled an older story that his father used to tell His brother died at Passchendaele, in fire and earth and blood and hail For three months now in mud and rain, he’d been living in this hell He was just a boy…just a boy… They tell us God has said the only place for cowards Is a lonely, unmarked grave The guns of dawn are crashing around the courtyard this morning I hear the Ravens calling, but they at least can fly The boy lies on his side now; so hard to go on breathing The captain stands above him, his pistol at his side He is just a boy…just a boy… And the captain says “The only place for cowards Is a lonely, unmarked grave” I don’t want to die today Father, hear me as I pray That German should be my friend Oh, where will this madness end? I hear the whistles calling me; they say we’re called to victory But the only thing that I can see is blood and pain and fear And all these men are only boys and yesterday we played with toys Will they hear our screams above the noise? And who will shed a tear? We are only boys…only boys… What madman said the only place for cowards Is a lonely, unmarked grave? I don’t want to die today Father, hear me as I pray The murdered my only friend Oh, where will this madness end? So proud to be the ‘human’ race God help us when we stand at Heaven’s gates… Words and music © Mark Robinson 2004 |

Every Golden Sun Close your eyes and listen to my song For this love, we’ve waited oh, so long My heart is open just for you I share this pain you’re going through Through this darkness I will hold your hand I’ll always love you; I hope you understand CHORUS: You are my love, my world, my heart’s desire Your beauty sets my soul on fire Through the days I fall and days I run You are every golden sun. So many words are in a lover’s eyes A thousand times ‘I love you’ in a sigh The promise that’s whispered in a kiss I never thought that I could feel like this Why you love me, I will never know But you’ll always be the other half of my soul CHORUS Life is like a million grains of sand Be sure to hold them tightly in your hand Our dreams are not so far away Remember as I kiss your tears away That we have something no one else can share Two hearts in harmony, a love beyond compare CHORUS Repeat chorus Words and music © Mark Robinson 2003 |

You Make Sense Of It All CHORUS: You make sense of it all When I close my eyes you’re right there beside me You make sense of it all You’re the light always there to guide me In the darkness of the longest night, when I am most alone You’re the one that brings me home When I wake in the dark and another dream is broken Or angry words are spoken and I have lost my way When surrounded by my fear I can’t even shed a tear And I wish I didn’t have to face another day You’re the one that gives the reason back to me You open up my eyes so I can see CHORUS When the sun is in my heart, I know you are the reason For the changing of the seasons in this life of mine You’re the one that set me free, you’re the seed of hope for me You are right there beside me as I walk the line You’re the reason that my heart keeps going strong You are every inspiration for my songs CHORUS When the night is cold, like ice inside in my heart You’re like the breath of a warm summer morning When life and hope seem so very far away You are the Eastern light softly dawning You’re the one that I will walk with to the light You’re the one that makes this living worth the fight CHORUS Sometimes I feel my mind is torturing my soul Then you come to me and make my spirit whole CHORUS Words and music © Mark Robinson 2004 |

The Keeper Of Your Dreams Sometimes I cannot sleep, my feelings run so deep I gaze across the darkness into space I guess I’ll never know the journeys of your soul Or how my life has brought me to this place Though many mysteries remain, I know that I have found A place where I can stand on solid ground CHORUS: Peace now, my friend, rest for a while Lay beside those sparkling crystal streams In your Rocky Mountain memories and Colorado skies My love will be the keeper of your dreams As a hawk you fly so high, in the Colorado sky But as your Mother said, I’d rather see you stand I’ll always sing your songs; I guess it won’t be long Before I get the chance to shake your hand For life is like a Summer blossom, then the Autumn comes It only seems a breath since I was young… CHORUS As I play this old guitar I can see you in the stars As you raise my soul to soar across the sky In the trees I saw your face, at the high cathedral lake In the place where you wrote ‘Rocky Mountain High’ And forever as I sing your songs my love will never cease And every day I’ll always pray for peace Your songs have helped me dance upon the ocean Your spirit was the wings that made me fly Forever in my heart, you have always played a part I promise I won’t let your music die CHORUS Words and music © Mark Robinson 16.10.2003 |

Another Star in Heaven Tonight Softly like a spinning top, the oak leaf tumbles down Horse Chestnut and Candytuft lie silent on the ground In the darkness all around me now I see a brand new light There’s another star in Heaven tonight Boyhood dreams and quiet streams are running through my mind Happy days and gentle ways, when love was oh, so kind Memories of the tenderness you brought into my life Are floating down from Heaven tonight My Father’s voice was calling you, so he could heal your heart It is true that you would never be apart I see the dawn light coming as the Earth turns slowly round Though I feel you all around me now, you do not make a sound While the petals of my heart are breaking in this morning light You’re with my Dad in Heaven tonight I know you will be here beside me every single day And if I’m ever lost your light will guide my way Life is just a mystery, a journey for us all I promise I’ll be listening, and I will hear your call Your simple ways, our golden days, will lead me to the light For there’s another star in Heaven tonight And softly like a spinning top, the oak leaf tumbles down Horse Chestnut and Candytuft lie silent on the ground In the darkness all around me now I see a brand new light There’s another star in Heaven tonight And I see your star in Heaven, tonight Words and music © Mark Robinson 18.05.2003 |

Small In just one breath, it washed them all away All their dreams, their hopes and fears As the mighty wave came crashing down It left a world of tears None of us can claim to ever understand Why people live and die But all of us can reach out with our hands And wipe away the tears that have been cried CHORUS:
Why did so many have to fall? Do our leaders now seem so tall? In this stressful world we live in and the comfort of it all We forget that we are small Last night I heard the howling of the wind As the rain lashed down outside We are merely drops in the ocean of this universe There is no place we can hide All of the people living in this world Are one big family We have so much between us; we can change so many lives If the men of war would only see CHORUS Our mother earth’s heart is broken We poison her skies and her waters Oh what kind of world are we leaving for All of our sons and daughters? Why did so many have to fall? Do our leaders now seem so tall? With our hatred of each other and the madness of it all With our weapons of destruction and the power of it all In this stressful world we live in and the comfort of it all We forget that we are small Words and music © Mark Robinson 8.1.2005 |

A Life More Beautiful I remember long ago, long before the winter came We had the sunshine and the snow, but never so much rain The summer fields were greener then, my road a straighter line Now sometimes in the night I feel I’m about to lose my mind Where are those golden summer days? Where is my mother’s kiss? Where is a life more beautiful than this? The bells are ringing far away; Heaven’s calling me The loves I knew of yesterday are scattered on the sea I hear the angels singing and I hear them speak my name They say I still have much to do; so here I must remain Where are those fields for running free? Where is my childhood kiss? Where is a life more beautiful than this? I lie here waiting for the dawn; a tear rolls from my eye Not so long since I was born, so soon I have to die I hear a voice out on the wind, it says you are never alone The mountains, they are calling me; they’re calling me back home Where are those golden Aspen leaves? Where is a lover’s kiss? Where is a life more beautiful than this? I’m travelling down this road Where it’s going I don`t know The sea is just a mystery To which this river flows I sing for the wind, the mountain skies This earth my mother’s kiss Where is a life more beautiful than this? I love the life that's in my eyes I could feel my Mother's kiss Oh, where is a life more beautiful than this? Words and music © Mark Robinson 14.02. 2004 |

Peace On Christmas Day We called him Hans, we didn’t know his name, he held the white flag high He walked out alone on the battlefield, in the pale December light The sun was rising behind their lines; it didn’t feel like Christmas Day In his other hand he held a ball, and he cried: “Do you want to play?” The men behind him began to rise; they held their arms out wide I felt the tears well in my eyes, a warmth down deep inside The man next door put his rifle down and he turned to me and said: “I’m going up there to join them boy; tomorrow we may all be dead” CHORUS: And we played football with the Germans; no one kept the score Though both sides could claim victory, it didn’t matter anymore If I could see my friend again, I wonder what I’d say Most of all I would recall we had peace on Christmas Day Last night I heard them singing as the winter wind blew cold ‘Stille Nacht’ and many other Christmas songs of old Then I knew that we were the same and it made me want to cry Why is it we stand in line and wait our turn to die? Hans patted me upon the cheek; I saw his blue eyes smile “You did your best there, English boy, but I beat you by a mile” I slapped his back as he walked away; that memory’s still so strong And every time I remember it, I know that war is wrong CHORUS That afternoon the leaders put an end to all our games The screaming shells came crashing down and left the battlefield in flames I never did see Hans again; I pray he did grow old So somewhere in some German town, this story can be told CHORUS Words and music © Mark Robinson 2004 |

Outside The Window Outside the window, drifts the sound of my guitar In the twilight you’re softly singing from afar This rainy evening, I am lying here alone Longing for home The candle’s burning, so I cannot close my eyes My life is turning, in love I never have been wise But through the darkness of this cold and lonely place I begin to see your face There are clouds across the moon tonight and though I cannot see the stars Your sweet and tender melody is here within my heart I run my fingers across your silken skin We close our eyes and let the dream begin The steam is running down the window pane As I kiss your lips again Outside the window, no one can hear you sigh No other man can see the fire in your eyes Here in the candlelight where love is all around Our souls are heaven bound We are standing on a mountainside, bathed in golden light Such love as I have never known is in my dreams tonight I watch the candle as it burns down low I hold you gently, here in the afterglow The words you whisper are just like heaven in my ear You take away my fear Outside the window I hear the wind begin to blow This day is dawning; my heart is flying with your soul I watch you sleeping, so gentle and so wise My heaven is in your eyes Up with the angels, on eagles’ wings we fly My heaven is in your eyes Words and music © Mark Robinson 2004 |

The Sweetest Voice Of All My friends, I thank you for sharing this time For singing my songs with me You’ve been on a journey inside my mind Now you see the things I see As you make your way back home again You take my love with you You’re the reason I am standing here You make my dreams come true CHORUS: And together we have touched the stars And opened each other’s hearts Though I’ve sung my songs this whole time through The sweetest voice of all is you Maybe a love song has brought back some memories Of another life or time Or perhaps I have shown you a different perspective A reason or a rhyme But this time we’ve shared has given me Such a feeling in my heart Like a great and rushing ocean wave Like a candle in the dark CHORUS Tread ever so lightly throughout the days Until we meet again I pray that the light will shine on you For you are my dearest friends And make the time in every day To show how much you care Hold your lover close and promise them You always will be there CHORUS Repeat Chorus Words and music © Mark Robinson 13.4.2004 |
