The Golden Sun CHORUS: The petals falling, one by one, The leaves are turning in the sun I think of you now this day is done And I know that I have found A chance to set your spirit free, To lie with you under some old tree, In the quiet stillness, we will see The golden sun go down. Come with me and take my hand, and lead me to the wind, Feel its breath upon your face, and turn to me again, Look into my eyes, then you'll realise, This time could be forever, my friend. CHORUS I play this old guitar for you and every song I sing Lifts me higher than the mountain tops, as on an eagle's wings, You take me oh, so high, soaring through the sky, You know that I would give you anything… And I long to hear your sighs, in the darkness, just for me All my love I give to you, yes all that I can be… CHORUS And in the quiet stillness, we will see Our final sun go down. Journey’s End I have reached my journey’s end; I’ve wandered many miles I’ve tried to find another love, to make it all worthwhile And all the time you’ve held the light that I’ve been searching for Now I’ve seen it, I won’t wander anymore CHORUS: Lay your hands upon my shoulders Let me look into your eyes Will you show me all your secrets? Will you be there when I die? And when the sands of time have called you To your final journey’s end Will you still be there to love me, my friend? Over many mountains high, by quiet gentle streams I’ve known that you were there for me; you’ve haunted all my dreams And if I ever let you go, or hear you say goodbye There’s a flame that burns within me that will die CHORUS Some have said that I’m a caring lover in the night But it’s never quite the same, when the feeling isn’t right And I long to hear you call my name and breathe a little sigh For in your arms I know that I could die
I know that life’s a miracle that’s given us to share And in your heart you know we’ve found a love beyond compare So come with me and take my hand, forever now, my friend And together we will find our journey’s end CHORUS
Will you love me then, forever, my friend? Words and music © Mark Robinson 1990
Why is the Sky Falling Down on Me?
Why is the sky so dark up above us? Why is there always this whistling wind? Where are the goats, and where is my Mother? And why is Grandfather crying again? You say that the noises come from the mountains You can cover my eyes, but still I can see All of the pain, over the plain Oh, why is the sky falling down on me? They say that the soldiers have come for the leaders But what of the missiles that fall from the sky? The hospital's gone, and so has my schoolroom It's all of the people who lay down and die The food has been ruined, the winter is coming, They say that they're trying to set us all free, But now here we are, under the stars Oh, why is the sky falling down on me? A man has been killed, there are people rejoicing They say that his death is a glorious thing But what of his loved ones, and what of his children? I really can't feel any reason to sing You come to my land with your guns and your armour I'm listening, try to explain it to me Why people must die, and Mothers must cry And why is the sky falling down on me? They say it's a war, Well, we've seen them before But the evil men do this time's just so much more Your great leaders say they are winning the battle, But explosions and gunfire are a sickening sound The blood of my friend is all over this blanket His hopes and his dreams just lie still on the ground So what do you say now, tell me the answer, What is it that you are trying to be? A hero of men? My very best friend? So why is the sky falling down on me?
Oh, why is the sky falling down on me? Words and music © Mark Robinson 2001
All My Love
The light by my bed shows it’s three in the morning Tonight I am truly alone I wonder if she is awake in the darkness Or if I am on my own Desperate days have come to me now I wish we could be together somehow I don’t know what I’m doing without her I remember the day we were high in the mountains The music plays in my mind Like a video dream with a million screens The images travel through time I turn my thoughts to the warmth of the sun To journeys lost, adventures won The memories that are precious in my heart CHORUS: There’s a light far away, and it’s shining just for me And I know that some day in its radiance I will be But I’d give all my life, if only she could see All my love All my love All my love I open my eyes and I look to the window Surely it must soon be dawn? For lying alone here surrounded by memories Makes me feel so forlorn I’m tired of all these lonely nights I’ve tried so hard to find the light But I just can’t see the answers anymore I guess in a way, I’m only a dreamer A singer without a song But I know I can love, I know I can sing So how can my vision be wrong? Yet sometimes, in this nightmare land I’m lost and alone and I don’t understand And I need her there to show me where to go CHORUS Sometimes I despair, and I don’t know what to do But I know inside my heart that I must stand by what is true CHORUS Words and music © Mark Robinson 2002
You Know Me Now
I can hear every word Every whisper from far away Though you’re gone, you’re still here In my memories of yesterday And you know me now All the joy that I feel With you warm here beside me And you show with your touch These things I thought I’d never see And you know me now So kiss my tears away And hear me when I say I love you more with every breath I take
In the blue of your eyes I can see those Rocky Mountain skies And I know we will stand In those high cathedrals, hand in hand For you know me now Like a rose in the sun This life of ours has just begun Like the words of my songs You’re in my heart where you belong For I know you now I want to hold you close to me And never let you go How a love could be this strong, I’ll never know I see your face in the night Making love with you by candlelight The warmth of your touch Of your heart, gives me so much For you know me now In the glow of your eyes In your tears, and in your sighs As we reach for that place I see the love, upon your face And you know me now You know me now You know me now Words and music © Mark Robinson 2002 When I Look in Your Eyes
You teach me to dance, you show me romance So much love if I’d just take a chance Though you’re holding my hand you don’t quite understand The way that I feel Though it seems that it’s only a dream Still a river was once just a stream All the ways that I go I am coming to know There is nothing so real CHORUS: When I look in your eyes I am truly surprised All the love that I find Can’t believe that it’s mine And you are so wise I could sing to the skies All my loneliness dies When I look in your eyes Love, this time I feel so alive Where before I had merely survived Like my vision was blurred in that crazy old world But now I can see Though the dawn is my friend, still the nights never end But this broken old heart it will mend There is nothing like this In your sweet tender kiss I am all I can be CHORUS One day I’ll find heaven But now I am here As long as I’m holding you I will have nothing to fear CHORUS Words and music © Mark Robinson 2002
For a Long Time You haven’t held me for a long time I haven’t felt your warm embrace Now as this day is softly dawning I recall the sunlight on your face Far away, in another’s arms Do you see the same star?
We were in love for a long time We shared the laughter and the tears You used to say how much you loved me I promised to hold you through the years Life is cruel in many ways I thought our love would last me all my days
Did we try hard enough? Did we think it wasn’t love? I hope you find love, for a lifetime I hope that your faith is always strong I pray that you live for a long time Safe in a love where you belong And if you ever think of me Smile and then you’ll see Though we were in love for a long time Now that the seasons have all gone Through all of the pain and all the sorrow We both should learn where we went wrong The tears have gone, like summer rain But I know I’ll never see your face again Life goes on for a long time Still, I will have so much love to share And I hope you know, wherever you go I’ll always care Words and music © Mark Robinson 12.07.2002 Love for Evermore Today I give to you all my hopes and all my dreams Take my hand and walk with me, I can see eternity, All my life I have been waiting for the look that's in your eyes, Now together we can gaze at our sunrise Through my days that were so lonely, the nights that were so cold, Though I longed to know this feeling, all I saw was growing old But softly as you sang to me, I found my way back home Now in your arms I'll never be alone CHORUS: No more broken dreams, No more lonely lovers’ songs In your eyes there is a light That says this isn't wrong, In your kisses and your laughter There's a life that I adore And I know that this is Love for Evermore I smile when I remember how I broke the news that day That I loved you, yes I love you darling, more than words can say Like a candle in the darkness, you brought me through the night And you'll hold me now until the morning light Standing by your side today my spirit wants to sing Your hand is wrapped in mine and you wear my wedding ring In the eyes of our creator, and surrounded by our friends, I declare that I will love you 'til the end CHORUS I'm your lover and your friend; we will never be apart I am yours until the end of time, to the last beat of my heart CHORUS In our songs and in the mountains There's a life that I adore And I know that this is Love, for Evermore… Words and music © Mark Robinson 25.01.2002 'Love for Evermore' is for my good friends Neil Sharman and Gill Wales, with all my love. This song is the story of your love, for your Wedding Day; may you have a long and happy life together. The Winds of War
In Flanders fields, where poets died and poppies blow, There's a message that you and I should know, Our leaders cried and swore "Never Again", They were only men… A golden line, where all the boys were sent to die, The blood of youth was washing in the tide, So many dreams lay shattered in the sand, By man's own hand CHORUS: Listen people, hear my song Listen like never before, They're blowing again, pray that I'm wrong, I feel the Winds of War A Desert Storm, the thunder rolling through the skies A village where so many people died, The politicians said they must preserve another's soil, Were they fighting for oil? Now here we are, ‘Civilisation’ weeps its bloody tears Are we doomed that we must always live in fear? As I pause for a moment and take a breath My brother is starving to death… CHORUS The leaders lied when they told you that your God is on your side, So many men have thought this as they died; We will not be saved by the flags we wave, In Peace we can truly be brave CHORUS Repeat chorus They're blowing again, pray that I'm wrong, Please God, not another war… Words and music © Mark Robinson 3.09.2002 More Than Yesterday
You know that I am with you in the first breath of the morning You can feel my love in the chill that’s in the air In the light of the eternal sun that’s dawning on your face You know that I am everywhere The songs I sing for you The love I bring to you This life I give to you CHORUS: Hand in hand, we walk this road together To the light that seems so far away In my heart I know tomorrow I will love you More than yesterday Sometimes I feel your sorrow as it gathers all around you Memories of another life, things you cannot say I know the place you go to I have nightmares of my own But this is more than yesterday And softly like the morning dew This life we share, so fresh and new Is all my dreams come true CHORUS As we walk the road together We will take the past apart There will be no lies Look in my eyes I will never break your heart
CHORUS Words and music © Mark Robinson 14.04.2003 Walk With Me Righteousness is not deemed by the colour of your skin I know you love the God that you have worshipped, kith and kin But whatever race, whatever creed We need to understand That the only chance this world can have Is if you take my hand (And) CHORUS: Walk with me, side by side, across the great divide We’ll walk right into Heaven, where evil cannot hide We will sing to the skies You can open up my eyes So leave your fear behind and walk with me Whichever book you choose to read, the Bible or Koran The word is still the same you are only just a man We should live our lives in harmony and let the hatred go Then the joys of peace and freedom Will be all of ours to know (So) CHORUS In the cool blue light of yesterday, I learned this simple truth That every smile and every kiss is down to me and you And the life of every Mother’s child is every Father’s dream This river of humanity Is every little stream (So) CHORUS So lay your weapons down again and go back to the land In the beauty of the wilderness, you’ll surely understand (So) CHORUS Repeat Chorus Words and music © Mark Robinson 09.06.2002 Another Sunrise From those early footprints in the sand, through all the years you held my hand In this darkest hour I understand, why you had to go I tried to show how much I care; I know that life was hard to bear Now I see you everywhere, you are all I know In all of this uncertainty I somehow know that you are free I can see you now, running with the wind CHORUS: In my dreams there will always be another sunrise Another day when the love will shine from your eyes Another time when we will share all the beauty that you see In my heart, you will always be with me All the stories that you told, from boyhood days so long ago Though I’ve heard them all before, you know, they are always in my heart I long to hear your voice again, telling me those tales of when The sunshine was your dearest friend, and you slept beneath the stars And every river you have crossed And every road where we got lost Are simply golden memories for me CHORUS I will always keep you near; I’ll take you with me through the years When I think of you I’ll laugh more than I’ll ever shed a tear And every beach I’ll walk with you, and every day I’ll talk with you I’ll tell you all my stories too, if you lend a willing ear And someday in another land, We’ll stand together, hand in hand And once again go running with the wind CHORUS And every night, you’ll always be the first name in my prayers And I’ll thank the Lord for the love that we have shared In my dreams there will always be another sunrise Another day when the love will shine from your eyes Another time when we will share all this beauty that I see In my heart you will always be with me In my heart you will always be with me Words and music © Mark Robinson 24.09.2002 Back to CD page
